Along the Centurion Way

In the summer of 2023, we brought together 8 students from KLC School of Design and 8 students from Universitat Politècnica de València to develop new uses for a Victorian goods shed; located near the old Singleton train station on the West Dean Estate.

Working in four collaborative teams, students developed proposals that ranged from performance spaces to artist-in-residence workshops to landscape experiences. Each of these was intended to be a first point of introduction to West Dean for visitors travelling along the Centurion Way; a walking/cycling route linking Chichester to Midhurst, along the route of a disused railway line.

Over the course of one-week, students engaged in a series of visits, workshops and studio sessions and resulted in presentations to a group of staff from West Dean.
